Recent study finds Breweries bring more than just beer to Larimer County

As seen in The Collegian

Fort Collins, CO--Breweries in Larimer County play a significant role on the local economy. In a recent study, conducted by CSU Regional Economics Institute and the Beverage Business Institute, it was found that local breweries supply $83.2 million to the Larimer County payroll as well as 938 direct jobs.

“This doesn’t surprise me,” Administrative Assistant of Odell Breweries, Corey Odell said. “There is high level of interest in breweries here, and with interest there is a high demand, which leads to a need for more jobs and growing breweries.”

The study focused on the most recent data of 2010 and included six major breweries: Anheuser Busch, Equinox Brewing, Fort Collins Brewery, Funkwerks Inc, New Belgium Brewing Company, and Odell Brewing Co.

The term, “brewery” in the study was defined in accordance to the U.S Census Bureau definition and thus, did not include full service restaurants, like Coopersmiths, that brew beer.

In the last ten years, these breweries grew by more than 22 percent, while other county employment grew only 6. 3 percent.

“I love living in a place that celebrates the craftsmanship of beer and finding out about this study only makes me feel that much better about contributing money to drinking good beer,” CSU Alum Jeremy Christner said.
